how do you do
Went to watch basketball last night. Took my beanie to work on. It was lots of fun. Went to Kristen's house after... hung out with her (she's teaching me how to actually make the beanie) and Brock and watched Independence Day. I'd never seen it before. I liked it. Will Smith is actually not my favorite. (shhh, don't tell). Great night though. Then, after, at an insane time of day, Brock took me back to my car and while driving back to my car we listened to this song. I first heard this from Rhianna... but I forgot just how much those drums push my groovy buttons.
That was a semi strange story. I'm sleepy.

after the storm
And there will come a time, you'll see, with no more tears.
And love will not break your heart, but dismiss your fears.
Get over your hill and see what you find there,
With grace in your heart and flowers in your hair.

you are the only exception
sat at rachel's house last night. she applied for jobs and i sent text messages and mulled my life over.
cider is better mulled.
my life is not.
we listened to this song over and over.
i will find the exception someday. maybe. who knows. and today i don't care.
p.s. to the several people that freak out when i put up anything slightly less happy than bubble gum and sunshine... please don't. i'm good. no need to panic. i panic over your panic over me. it's really fruitless. ;) i do appreciate your concern though. but there's no need. all is well.

beautiful mess
I know this is long... oh but it is oh so wonderful. I had to get past the facial expressions.... but since I'm super expressive myself, I probably ought to be more forgiving? True.

ain't no sunshine
Had this song in my head today...
It reminds me of waiting for the baseball game to start.... this was the "pre-game song" a lot of times...(you're not alone, I have no idea why it was, either) blasting out all scratchy from the ancient sound system... but it was glorious. The smells, the sounds, the excitement, the overpriced concessions. I miss that. I think the last baseball game I went to was about 4 years ago? I hope to make it this summer.
Nothing gives me the same feeling. The hotdogs, the cheering, the 7th inning stretch and the crazy people on the rickety bench right above (that typically smelled of beer). All of that wrapped up together made me smile. Truly.
I loved it. All of it.
There's nothing quite like baseball. And you gotta love a little bit of minor league goodness, right?
Go Chukars!
-miss marvy, the chukar lovin' fool-
P.S. I wish I could be as cool as that drummer. It'll never happen.

darcie's lullaby
I really miss my dear friend Rosalie today.
She is one of the most beautiful and kind hearted people I've ever known.
Rosalie and I used to listen to this song (and other amazing songs) on our way to work (we worked at a newspaper together about 45 miles from where I lived.... we also spent quite a few years of childhood together). She is from Hawaii and her mom is the one who first gave me a ukulele and was patient enough to help me learn to play it.
So here I am, listening and remembering. I am pretty sure I begged Rosalie to put this song on repeat more than a few times.
--- I only found a cover version (that also has guitar), but I still think it's gorgeous. What a beautiful song from father to daughter.

brooklyn blurs
Thanks Tommy. Just what I needed today...
besides the amazing surprise in the mail... which I will blog about later...
and the piece of chocolate cake I'm devouring.
So, basically, what I'm saying is this:
all is well and right in the world.

day job
I came across this song after having correspondence with a friend... I was advised to sing love songs in the shower. I completely agree.

my heart hurts
I try to stay away from negative posts, and I'll be back to normal soon, but feel free to steer clear of this one, if you want. I wouldn't blame you a bit.
Turns out, I'm sad today. Really sad. I was going to write about the reasoning behind such a dramatic declaration but I don't have the right words.
So, even though I've posted this song before, I thought I'd post it again.
Only this time, every word applies to today.
-love me if you can-

I rocked?!
Sorta. I played Rockband with a friend tonight. We played, we ended up chatting for quite a long time, watched a movie... well, and it was awesome. Every bit of it.
As for melting my face off whilst playing in a "band"... my favorite song we played tonight was this one:
Things on my grateful list today:
friends,
drums,
rain &
chocolate milk.
Not necessarily in that order.

cherry coloured dreams...
I really enjoy this song. It's from Kirsten Morrell. She is from New Zealand, so I thought that would be a lot of fun for my ever increasing fan base of blog views from there.
~ You make up more than 1/2 of my visits, daily, for both blogs. Impressive! Thanks! :)
Anyhow, here she is, the lovely Kirsten Morrell... singing Cherry Coloured Dreams. Every time I hear this I start swaying back and forth, back and forth. It's a "I don't wanna think about things" song, and heaven knows I need a few more of those songs in my life. Enjoy!
P.S. She sings for Goldenhorse...one of the founding members, actually. Yeah, I didn't even know that. But I am learning all the time. ;)

the beginning...
I never thought I would blog, let alone have two blogs.
Music. Ahhh, what to say? I have always loved music, although I considered myself to be in a rut with it. Thank heaven for friends, right? Through them my eyes have been opened to the grand world of "songs beyond the top 40"... I have learned of songs and lyrics that have been a soothing balm, a background to my efforts at writing, a smile, a tear, an outlet for frustration and sometimes even a hope.
This is my casual attempt to share some of that. You don't have to love them or even like them. You can hate them. This isn't about convincing anyone of the music. Mostly, this is an outlet for me, in all honesty. Sometimes you'll get a poem I've written with it, a story behind the song, some wee fact about the artist or the lyrics, or a photo. Maybe I'll even share some of the writing I'm doing. (If I can get the courage, that is!)
And right now, before anything else, I give a shout out to Rhianna, Tommy, Mr. Lightning, Brock and the many others that send new tunes my way. You're a marvy bunch and I give credit to you for a lot of what I'll post.
Please, feel free to comment and give me suggestions... any suggestions.... but especially of what I should listen to next. What's on your playlist? What's inspiring you? I'm always up for that.
I'm drowning in the music... and I like it.
